Osteopathy is a patient centred therapy, which means no two treatments are the same – the treatment is geared to each patient as an individual.
During a treatment, there are a range of different techniques that may be used. One technique is Cranial Osteopathy, which is a particularly gentle technique that allows the osteopath to read tension and strain patterns in the body and to open a dialogue with the nervous system to restore the body to its optimal state.
The body tells a story
By paying attention to the tension patterns held in the body, the osteopath can “read” the story that the body has to tell. The more accurately the osteopath reads the story, the better the problems can be resolved.
Often the tension patterns have been held by the body for long periods of time and may relate to old accidents, injuries or life events, including emotional trauma, which can leave a lasting physical effect. The body can compensate for these, but compensating can put a burden on the body and symptoms will appear sooner or later.
Because the technique is very gentle it can be used for people of all ages. The newborn can benefit enormously from osteopathy which relieves a host of symptoms related to the trauma of birth. Treating children is of paramount importance – Osteopathy can help guide their growth towards its optimum by resolving strain patterns arising from accidents, sports injuries, illness, rapid growth phases and orthodontic work.
Pregnancy
Osteopathic treatment during pregnancy helps the body adapt to postural changes and ensure the pelvis is in optimal balance prior to the birth. Treatment after the delivery is important to restore the mechanics and visceral pelvis to optimum. Retained parturition strains can cause many problems on a long term basis unless they are resolved.
Neck and Back pain
Osteopathy is well known for its comprehensive approach to neck and back pain. Correcting joint malalignment eases joint inflammation and muscle spasm thus reducing pain. Osteopathic treatment can help restore the body back to health after car accidents, lifting strains, falls and blows to the head, sporting injuries, dental trauma, occupational strains and disc prolapse.
Arthritis
The elderly suffering from arthritis can often gain relief using Osteopathy. Even if the joint has degenerative changes, the osteopath can very often decrease muscle contracture, decompress the joint, ease swelling and pain and improve mobility.

Acupuncture is an ancient traditional medicine that has become widely accepted by the medical profession as an effective treatment for a broad range of problems and illnesses. These include infertility, back and joint problems, migraines, sleep problems, hayfever and other allergies, anxiety and stress, digestive disorders, and many more conditions. Acupuncture can also be used as a treatment for restoring good health, for example after flu, or for fatigue and the ill effects of stress. It can also be used as a support during pregnancy and for treating nausea.
The Treatment
Treatments last approximately 40 minutes. The first few treatments may take place at weekly intervals. Subsequent but less frequent treatments support and encourage further improvement and maintain vitality.
All needles are fine, high quality, disposable and unique to each client. The tip of the needles are placed in the surface of the skin at selected points of the body, mainly below the knee and elbow, depending on the diagnosis, and are left in for a short period of time. Most clients feel little or no discomfort.
Acupuncture is a highly effective treatment that can be used on its own, or in conjunction with other medical and alternative treatments.

What is homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a system of medicine with a long tradition. It is a holistic therapy meaning it treats the whole person as a unique individual and is completely safe for people of all ages, including pregnant women and babies. The remedies are specially prepared, highly diluted substances given mainly in tablet or liquid form. Each prescription is tailored to the patient according to their specific symptoms and character. The remedy acts as a catalyst to stimulate the patient’s own healing powers, releasing the vitality needed to restore health. A homeopath views good health as much more than simply not having any symptoms – good health is an active, positive state without any limitations on physical, emotional and mental levels. Homeopathy is a natural, safe and effective way of achieving this.
Does homeopathy work?
Yes! Many people who are sceptical to begin with become completely convinced that Homeopathy works when they see the results in themselves or their children. There have also been quality randomised clinical trials demonstrating Homeopathy’s clinical effectiveness. For example, the Swiss Government commissioned a report that concluded that Homeopathy is clinically effective, cost effective and safe, while The Bristol Homeopathic hospital recorded the outcome of homeopathic treatment in 6,500 patients and found that 70% of patients reported an improvement in their health. The best way to find out is to try it yourself.
What to expect when visiting a homeopath?
The initial consultation takes at least one hour in order for the homeopath to gain a thorough understanding of the patient, their health and what symptoms they are experiencing. Follow-up consultations vary from patient to patient, but the aim is to help the patient improve as rapidly as possible. All information is kept confidential. It is always recommended that the patient maintain their relationship with their GP.

Massage
Massage can treat a wide range of physical, functional and, in some cases, psychological symptoms by manually manipulating soft tissue in the client’s body.
Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, and/or organs of the gastrointestinal system.
Massage can help reduce swelling and promote lymphatic drainage. Massage can be applied with the hands, fingers, elbows and forearm.

Remedial Massage Therapy
Remedial massage therapy simply means using manual therapy techniques to “remedy” a problem. But, for the remedy to be effective, it is necessary to do more than simply relieve pain – the therapist must be able to understand how the problem came about and how it can be avoided in the future. To achieve this, our therapists use a range of massage and advanced soft tissue techniques set within a framework of assessment and rehabilitation procedures. As well as dealing effectively with a variety of musculoskeletal problems, remedial massage can also be used to help recovery and reduce the symptoms in many medical conditions too, including chronic pain, fatigue, and many others.
Sports Massage
Like Remedial massage therapy, Sport massage therapy is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons and ligaments and is typically used to help prepare athletes for optimal performance during an athletic event, during training and for recovery after an event. Its purpose is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. Our therapists work with a broad range of clients in assisting with preventative treatment and injury recovery.

Rhythmical Massage Therapy
Rhythmical Massage therapy (RMT) is a massage technique used in anthroposophical medicine, involving a very gentle touch that can be offered and accepted by hypersensitive clients. It involves delicate rhythmic movements, supporting the client to trust and accept increasingly deeper penetrating touch for tension release.
Rhythmical massage therapy is quite different from other types of massage. It involves an assessment of warmth organisation and regards the skin itself, as a whole organism.
Rhythmical massage therapy consists of techniques such as kneading, effleurage, downward strokes and the use of lemniscate movements which are unique to the therapy. The lemniscate is applied with a rhythmical breathing quality of touch, in a figure of ‘8’ which penetrates the tissue deeply. The movements are rounded with an element of suction rather than pressure and are designed to influence the flow of fluids through the body.
RMT can be given during pregnancy, in caring for infants and children, and in caring for the elderly and individuals approaching death. A series of weekly or biweekly treatments is recommended for the full effects of the therapy to unfold.
This therapy is designed to evolve over a period of several weeks and may include other interventions like rhythmical embrocation, external applications, compresses, footbaths or even oil dispersion bath therapy when possible.
Rhythmical Massage Therapy is supportive of the following Health Conditions:
• Stress and anxiety • Sleep disorders • Headaches and migraines • Muscular tension, strain and injury • Degenerative disorders of the joint • Disorders of the spinal system, neck, back, and shoulder • Allergies • Cancer • Immune and auto-immune disorders • ADD and ADHD • Developmental disorders and disabilities • Psychological disorders • Hormonal imbalances • Degenerative disorders of the nervous system • Cardiovascular disorders • Respiratory conditions • Digestive disorders • Frail constitution • Eating disorders

Following my wife’s recommendation I have been seeing Nick Tuckley once a week for about 6 weeks as I could hardly walk which transpired I had put my pelvis out.
Due to Nick’s magical hands I can now walk as normal and I cannot recommend him highly enough. No matter what your problem is Nick can work magic.
Nick Tuckley is a man of great integrity and experience with a gentle strength and wisdom. His compassionate treatments alleviate both long standing pain and injury and at the same time encourage healing and any necessary re-alignment and are wonderful at reinstating balance and initiating healing after an injury or surgery. I whole heartedly recommend him.
After months of pain from a frozen shoulder, I finally went to the Riverside practice.Just a few treatments from Nick and it was healed completely. Now I know to call here first.
Nick’s treatments are a curious combination of feeling very gentle whilst at the same time being profoundly effective. Over the past 8 years, Nick has successfully treated me for a wide range of problems and I would not hesitate to recommend him.
Alison provides both pilates and physiotherapy in one package. Because she is a fully qualified physio you feel completely safe with all the movements. Pilates has given me back movement in my spine and upper back, more strength in my legs and a feeling of wellbeing. After years of pain in my lower back, hips and knees, pilates really has been a life-changer.
I have been working with Alison on my lower back and hip pain for several months now and she has really helped me.
My discomfort is greatly reduced and mobility is increased. Thanks for all your help Alison and look forward to our next session.
Alison is a gifted and experienced physiotherapist and pilates teacher. She is always well prepared and makes every session enjoyable, building from the one before, but also responding sensitively to the needs of the moment. I don’t know how I would have recovered the full use of my arm (after injury) without Alison’s help. She really knows what she is doing.
Nick transformed my life from being in continual pain for years

Thank you.
After 10 years of recurring lower back pain, after a couple of treatments with Nick, I experienced instant relief … and have been pain free ever since!
